Britain 2011 Best of
Britain 2011 Loch Lomond Edinburgh Lake District Oxford London Killarney

Up early today. We had breakfast in the Club and then got on the bus for Heathrow Airport. This is not a pleasant experience. Soon we were on out way to Ireland. Some of the Vantage people went home at this point but we are taking the Extension. We drove down to Killarney stopping for photos occasionally and lunch. The hotel, Hotel Killarney Park, is very nice. Linda and I ate in the hotel.

After breakfast we headed out to the Ring of Kerry. It was a very dramatic ride. As we got close to the sea the mountains got more exciting. We were along the coast from then on. We stopped at a restaurant way up on the side of a mountain. Wonderful view and I got my Shepherd's Pie. It was very good. We went on to a sheep form in the mountains and had a demonstration of sheep shearing and sheep dogs doing their herding. We also stopped in the small town of Smeen. It was a very pretty town and one store had the most beautiful wool sweaters. I had to buy one. Then we stopped at a beautiful house on a lake. We walked around the house and grounds. Then we came back to the hotel. In the evening we went to the Old Killarney Pub. We had a good dinner with an Irish couple entertaining us with music and songs. There were also two young girls that did Irish dances.

After breakfast we boarded the bus for our last sightseeing day in Ireland. We drove out to the Dingle Peninsula. This was more rigged than Kerry where we were yesterday. This is an area where Gaelic is commonly spoken and signs are on Gaelic. It was a rainy day but seemed to let up when we stopped to take photos. We went among the coast. There were a few wide beached and some dramatic cliffs. We stopped at the ruins of an old abbey. Interesting place to take photos. We saw some ancient “beehive" huts. Lunch was on our own so several of us had lunch at a little restaurant along the waterfront. Then we walked around the little town of Dingle.

We were up at 3:00 to put the bags out. They had a simple breakfast for the three couples going to the airport. The bus took us to Shannon Airport. From there we flew to Heathrow,  then to Chicago, and Indy. My leg gave out getting off the plane in Heathrow. Embarrassing but I didn't get hurt. Business Class over the pond was great. Kevin picked us up at Indy.
